As Hurricane Irene crashed through the Cape Fear region it left plenty of debris in it's wake. New Hanover County Commissioners say they are waiting on FEMA to see if the government will cover the cost for debris collection.

established a curfew for local residents as well as for those

The lights are still out in parts of our area two days after Hurricane Irene swept past the Cape Fear coast. Those without generators are beginning to get frustrated, as temperatures and tempers continue to rise.

There is no decision whether the county will activate it’s debris removal contract. New Hanover County is awaiting word whether the county will receive payment from FEMA to cover the cost of countywide debris pick up.
The cost to New Hanover County government could be as high as $500,000.

Hurricane Irene's had a big impact up the coast from here, but the Coast Guard says our area's beaches were relatively unscathed. Boaters and fishermen from Pleasure Island say the Carolina Beach Inlet has become even more of a problem after Irene.
