Christmas tree recycling starts Monday

Recycling used Christmas trees will begin the day after the holiday for New Hanover County residents. The New Hanover County Environmental Management Department asks residents living outside city limits to take their trees to one of three locations this year.

video On Thursday night on WWAY we featured the championship game of the girls holiday high school basketball tournament at Laney High School. Undefeated Laney hosted Ashley, but the Bucs didn't capture the title. It went to the Screaming Eagles instead. We also featured highlights from the Wallace-Rose Hill boys basketball championship game. That title game showcased Topsail and East Carteret. Click play video to highlights from these games. Former presidential candidate John Edwards is seeking to delay his criminal trial over campaign finances. He says he has been diagnosed with a medical condition that will make it difficult for him to attend.

Dewey Hill won't seek reelection

Rep. Dewey Hill, who represents Brunswick and Columbus Counties, will finish his tenth term next year, but will not run again. After spending 20 years in Raleigh, Hill says it's time for someone else to bring some new ideas to the table.

Onslow shooting victim 'alert and talking with family'
