Rouzer, McIntyre anxious as end of hard-fought race nears

The race for the 7th Congressional District has been hotly contested since the beginning, and today was no different. Today, both incumbent Democrat Mike McIntyre and Republican challenger David Rouzer took their campaigns to the street for one final push to get votes.

CFPUA reports sewage spill in Porters Neck

CFPUA Operations crews have responded to and stopped a wastewater spill in the Country Haven area adjacent to the 8000 block of Market Street. At approximately 7:45 a.m. today, CFPUA staff discovered the spill while visiting the site to conduct routine maintenance. The CFPUA crew took action to stop the flow from the pipe, which appears to have been previously damaged.

Brunswick County horse tests positive for EEE

A one-year-old Quarter horse colt that died in Brunswick County was confirmed as the 19th Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) positive horse in North Carolina for 2012 according to county health officials. North Carolina has experienced an active West Nile virus (WNV) and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) activity this year.

This Day in NC History: A Civil War surrender six months after Appomattox

On November 6, 1865, the CSS Shenandoah lowered the Confederate flag and James I. Waddell surrendered command of the vessel to British authorities in Liverpool. The surrender came a full six months after Robert E. Lee’s surrender at Appomattox.
