State and local law enforcement officers cited 3,627 motorists for driving while impaired during the Holiday "Booze It & Lose It" campaign, which ran Dec. 3–Jan 2. They issued a total of 136,769 traffic and criminal citations statewide.

Camp Lejeune has reopened a road closed overnight because of smoke from a wildfire. For safety reasons, the provost marshal's office decided overnight to close NC 172 between the Triangle Outpost gate and Sneads Ferry Rd. due to limited visibility.
