Though the weather has cooled off a bit from Wednesday evening's thunderstorms, it was preceded by record temperatures in the triple digits. The Dixie Youth Softball Tournament started this Saturday in Wilmington. Players keeping active in this horrible heat say its just part of the game.

Waking up this morning you may have smelled or seen smoke where you live. As winds in the Cape Fear region shifted, smoke from the Pender County fires is pushing southward affecting residents down the coast and across the state line.

Severe weather rolled into the region early Wednesday afternoon, flooding streets and cars across the Cape Fear. Although the area has been in a serious drought over the last couple of months, the instantaneous rush of water caused by the heavy rain overwhelmed the area.

Today's storms coupled with the smoke from the wildfires in Pender County will most likely combine to create a "super-fog" tonight according to forecasters.
Super-fog is a combination of smoke and water vapor that produces zero visibility over roadways.
