Surf City motel destroyed, one person hurt

videoTiffany's motel went up in flames around 3 a.m. The building was a historic part of Surf City. When the call came in, flames were engulfing Tiffany's motel, and strong winds quickly spread the flames to nearby buildings.

Shed catches fire and damages two mobile homes

video Crews responded to a fire Saturday afternoon on Davis Lane in Castle Hayne. According to Battalion Chief Mack Smith, the fire started in a shed that was between two mobile homes. It spread to the mobile homes and caused damages. Smith says the mobile homes are not a loss though and can be fixed.

Controlled burns planned at Camp Lejeune

Officials plan controlled burns at Camp Lejeune to reduce the possibility of forest fires. The Camp Lejeune Environmental Management Division has started lighting fires on forestry parts of the base and will continue the process for the next eight months.
