1,000 gallons of wastewater leaked into marsh

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The spokesperson for Brunswick County says there has been a discharge of 1,000 gallons of untreated wastewater into a salt marsh.

The leak happened yesterday in the 2900 block of Trailwood Drive in the St. James area. The leak occurred from 1:45 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., officials said.

According to a news release, they believe the leak was caused by a tree planted on top of the service box crushing the line. 1,000 gallons of this untreated wastewater made its way to the Polly Gully Branch salt marsh.
