Wilmington road closing due to possible sinkhole

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A City of Wilmington spokeswoman said parts of River Road will be closed for several days due to a possible sinkhole forming.

The area affected includes River Road from Sanders Road to Independence Boulevard. That stretch will close at 5:00 p.m. The road will be fully closed starting from the Barnards Creek Bridge to Independence.

A spokeswoman said city staff noticed cracks forming in the road earlier today before deciding to close the portion of the road. Residents living on River Road will still be able to access the road, but traffic will be limited to those cars only.
