SBI: ‘Investigation initiated’ against fmr. CFCC president, no charges filed

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A spokesman with the State Bureau of Investigation said agents have begun looking into former CFCC president Dr. Ted Spring, but the spokesman stresses this does not imply any current criminal charges in the case.

The investigation comes about a month after the State Auditor released a report calling some of Dr. Spring’s spending “inappropriate.” The SBI spokesman said an investigation was initiated August 19.

Gary Shipman, the attorney representing Dr. Spring, tells WWAY he welcomes the investigation. He said the audit report was inadequate and his client has never done anything wrong.

Dr. Spring resigned from his position in February, after Shipman said he was forced to or be fired, a violation of due process.
