WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Today is World AIDS Day. The day brings awareness to the disease and how it can be prevented and treated.
Despite advances in technology and medicine, the disease still affects millions of people around the world. According to the CDC 1.2 million people in the US alone are living with the virus. We had Dr. LeShonda Wallace in the studio to talk about the disease.
Dr. Wallace is the founder of ‘Seeds of Healing’ a non-profit that provides prevention services and promotes care for women living with HIV. Dr. Wallace is also part of the HIV Care Team in Wilmington.
