Echo Farms residents frustrated after appeal hearing continued until April

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Residents of Echo Farms are upset once again tonight after the Wilmington Planning Commission decided to continue a hearing on the appeal for rezoning filed by the residents.

The room was packed with people wearing orange to stand against the potential development of the golf course at Echo Farms and in support of rezoning the land.

The property owner has submitted their own appeal to the Board of Adjustment against that rezoning saying the rezoning appeal was filed on a hostile basis. After consideration the planning commission decided to continue the hearing.

“We’re very upset that we didn’t get heard tonight. This is the second delay of this. We deserve a right to be heard. We’re using a precedent, a previous case in 2009 that was exactly the same as this, Forest Hills. Do they have any better rice than we do in Echo Farms?” said Henry Winters.

The hearing was continued until after the March Board of Adjustment meeting, which means the earliest it could come back before the planning commission would be April.
