Help foster kids get ready for school!

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) —  As schools across the Cape Fear open their doors, many students don’t have the necessities to attend class.  North Carolina has more than 11,000 children in foster care and they find it very difficult to get their school supplies.

In Wilmington, all 8 Mattress Firm stores are stepping in to help and they need your help too. The Mattress Firm Foster Kids School Supply Drive is going on until Sunday, August 27.

They are looking for simple yet essential items such as new backpacks, crayons, binders and paper. According to Area Manager George Boone, these are items which give “foster kids the confidence and motivation they need to be successful in school.” The stores will also accept cash donations.

The supplies you give stay in the Cape Fear area when they are distributed with help from Children’s Hope Alliance and Children’s Home Society of North Carolina.
