COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The State Board of Elections has set a new hearing date to determine who should be sheriff in Columbus County.
The hearing will now take place in Raleigh on March 25.
It was originally scheduled for this past Monday, but it was delayed to allow time for more evidence to be submitted.
The SBOE will hear protests concerning Sheriff Jody Greene’s residency and voting issues in Tabor City.
Green was sworn in back in December, but the race was never certified.
Former sheriff Lewis Hatcher filed a lawsuit. The two sides recently settled. They agreed Hatcher would drop his suit if Greene would not perform the day to day operations as sheriff while the matter is pending before the State Board of Elections.
