3 people rescued from ocean in Surf City Friday morning

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Ocean rescue crews rescued three people from the water Friday morning.

Surf City Fire Chief Allen Wilson said they got two calls just after 9 a.m. in the 400 block of North Shore Drive.

Chief Wilson said they pulled three people from the water. Two of them were taken to the hospital.

Right before this happened, Chief Wilson spoke to WWAY’s Hannah Patrick via video conference about the increase in rip currents calls they have seen over the last two weeks. He said they had almost a dozen calls in two days this week.
