WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — This week, three organizations interested in purchasing or partnering with New Hanover Regional Medical Center will present their proposals to the public.
Duke Health was the first to present on Tuesday, followed by Novant Health on Wednesday and Atrium Health on Thursday. Each presentation is held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and can be viewed here.
Duke is offering to purchase the hospital for $1.4 billion with $1.9 billion in capital investments over 12 years.
They would also keep all hospital employees on staff for at least one year, and bring their graduate medical school programs to NHRMC.
During the presentation, the non-profit highlighted $600 million in community benefit and investment in the last fiscal year, including $118 million in financial assistance to uninsured low income patients.
Executive Vice President of the Duke University Health System William Fulkerson discussed some of Duke’s core values.
“The quality and patient safety are the highest priority for the Duke University Health System,” Fulkerson said. “It’s what patients expect when they come to a place called Duke, and it’s our privilege to try and deliver that in every circumstance in caring for our patients and caring for each other, frankly, in the health system.”
Fulkerson also expressed a desire to maintain a local governance board made up of those in the community. He also wants to keep NHRMC President and CEO John Gizdic and other senior staff.
New Hanover County’s live stream failed about halfway through the presentation, but can be viewed here.
