WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW is partnering with College Advising Corps to help students in rural communities.
The university will help provide counselors to rural high schools, in Columbus, Beaufort, Craven, Cumberland, and Jones counties. The counselors will help high school students in historically underrepresented student groups apply to colleges and for other educational opportunities.
Whiteville High School counselor, Linda Coudill said she and one other counselor were responsible for helping 134 seniors apply to college this year. She said the new help will be appreciated.
“You can never have enough people helping,” said Coudill. “They say it takes a village to raise a child. And so having as many as we can to help these students. It is very needed.”
UNCW says it will release more information, including specific schools they plan to help, in the coming weeks.
