Moores Creek celebrates 240 years since battle

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Moores Creek National Battlefield hosted the 240th anniversary celebration of the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge this weekend.

That battle marked the first Patriot victory of the American Revolution. The event gave visitors the opportunity to tour the battlefield and watch demonstrations of life in the army during the American Revolution.

Park superintendent Ricardo Perez said he hopes visitors take away new knowledge about the state.

“I hope they find a more personal connection with the story of the role that North Carolina played in the fight for independence,” Perez said.

2016 also marks the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. A park ranger estimates that more than 6,000 visitors participated in the weekend’s events.
