Finalized election results show it’s officially over for Beth Dawson

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Board of Elections released its finalized primary election results Thursday night.

That means it’s officially over for New Hanover County Commission chair Beth Dawson.

Derrick Hickey edged her out in the March 15 primary by 333 votes, according to New Hanover County’s finalized results.

The Star News reports the gap would have had to be 192 votes, which is one percent of the votes the two of them got.

After the primary, Dawson said she would ask for a recount if she was eligible. However, because the gap between her and Hickey was larger than 192 votes, Dawson cannot ask for a recount.
