Snoop Dogg draws diverse crowd as Friday night headliner

WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) –There’s a little something for everyone in the 2016 Azalea Festival concert line-up and we’ve seen a push for a more diverse concert series in recent years during the annual festival.  Snoop Dogg performed Friday night as part of a diverse concert series with the Avett Brothers Thursday night and Chase Rice Saturday night.

Area music fans were certainly in for some good times as the Azalea Festival concert series continued Friday night with Snoop Dogg.

Diana Setaro said she attended the Avett Brothers’ show and Snoop Dogg’s show. She said appreciates the variety the series offers.

“I’m glad that we can have such diversity, Avett Brothers one night and now Snoop Dogg,” said Setaro.

“Wilmington is such an eclectic area, so the variety that they have is great because it’s good for the country people, and it’s good for the rap, and the young generation,” said concert goer Maia Cheatham.

This trend started last year with Nelly performing. And while all generations were represented at that concert and this year’s hip hop performances, it’s the young hip hop fans that really showed a presence.

“Wilmington doesn’t really have a lot of good places to have concerts so it’s the one time of year we have pretty much the biggest person for that one opportunity,” said concert goer Monroe Williams.

“We are getting to get to come together to share this special moment with everybody,” said concert goer Caybrianna Russ.

For years the Azalea Festival has been trying to promote diversity with the multi-culture stage during the street fair.

The concert series concludes with country music star Chase Rice Saturday.
