Riverkeeper paddles through downtown on 200-mile trek

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Eight days and 200 miles, that’s what it takes to paddle the majority of the Cape Fear River, and Cape Fear Riverkeeper Kemp Burdette is checking the task off his list.

Burdette passed through downtown Wilmington today and is gearing up for one more day of paddling to finish in Southport.

He said he’s experienced new areas of the river during the trip.

“It was an opportunity to kind of share the river with folks, to try to raise a little awareness about the river and why it’s so special and why we need to be taking care of it.”

Burdette said his favorite parts of the trip so far have been meeting people and wildlife along the way.
