Forestry Service: ‘Brunswick woods fire 60% contained’
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County officials continue to investigate a fire that burned thousands of acres of woods Tuesday.
According to Forestry Service Officer Chris Meggs, the fire is 60% contained. He said power crews are working alongside Forestry Officers to replace light poles in the area. Meggs says he expects to find more damage as they continue to investigate.
“And we’re looking at roughly 1500 acres and that is expected to increase whenever we get a more up to date map,” Meggs said.
Meggs added that they hope to have the fire completely contained today and there is no word yet on what caused it. Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation said a power outage that affected over 50-thousand customer shortly after midnight was due to the woods fire
