Trinity United Methodist Church to host back-to-school event at New Hanover High School

Wilmington, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington church is partnering with several community organizations to provide school supplies, groceries and other resources to families ahead of the new school year.

Trinity United Methodist Church will host its Back to School Block Party on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Brogden Hall at New Hanover High School.

Organizers say 800 backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed during the event, including 450 for elementary school students and 350 for middle and high school students.

NourishNC will also operate a mobile grocery market with enough food to provide groceries to 500 families.

The event will include free hot dog lunches and back-to-school haircuts provided by Great Clips. Other community organizations are expected to attend and provide families with information and resources.

The event is open to the community.
