Two dogs seized after baby is killed in Bladen County

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A baby has died after being mauled by a dog in Bladen County, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

District Attorney Jon David confirmed Wednesday that his office is aware of the incident and is in contact with law enforcement as the investigation continues.

The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of an animal attack at about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Following the attack, animal control officers seized two dogs from the residence. The dogs are being held by animal control while investigators work to determine whether one or both animals were involved in the attack.

At this time, officials have not released additional details about where the attack happened, the circumstances surrounding the incident, or the type of dog involved.

David said the fact that his office is involved does not necessarily mean criminal charges will be filed. Any potential charges would depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.

The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Office and Department of Social Services are conducting a joint investigation into the baby’s death.
