Officials in N. Topsail meet about sandbags plan

NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Officials in North Topsail Beach met Wednesday night to figure out how to pay for several super sized sandbags on the north end of the island.

The bags are larger than the sandbags you usually see on beaches and are supposed to help with beach erosion in the area.

The town received three bids for the project. The lowest was $2.9 million and the highest was $4.2 million. The town’s engineering consultant said that he is working with the lowest responsible, responsive bidder to reduce costs, since they all exceed the town’s current budget.

A consultant will review all of the bids to see which one will operate within the budget and report to the board next Monday.
