Attempted armed robbery on Castle Hayne Road Saturday evening

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office confirmed an attempted armed robbery happened Saturday evening in the 2600 block of Castle Hayne Road.

According to Sgt. Brewer of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department, the call about a robbery came in around 7:55 pm.

Sgt. Brewer said a man jumped out from behind an ATM while a woman was withdrawing money, then striking her with a club-like weapon.

The suspect then fled behind the Wrightsboro Food Lion. The suspect was wearing a mask and a toboggan.
