Trauma surgeon speaks about JFK’s assassination

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The 26th annual Trauma and Emergency Symposium ended today at the Wilmington Convention Center.

This 2 day event was sponsored by the New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

The keynote speaker was Dr. Ronald Coy Jones, a chief resident at the Parkland Memorial Hospital when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in November 1963.

Jones spoke about his experience as a trauma surgeon on a case that changed our nations’ history.

“According to his autopsy, there is a 1.5 inch maximum diameter entry on the right side of his head and the second bullet exits this side too,” Jones said.

Jones is currently the Residency Program Director for General Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

The goal of the symposium was to outline high-risk situations in trauma care, discuss current concepts in the management of damage control, and illustrate new developments that have proven successful in improving trauma care outcomes.
