UNCW students retreat indoors during rainy snow day

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Many Cape Fear schools and businesses were closed today due to the conditions. But while the Winter Weather Advisory continues, so does many people’s workday.

If you were looking for UNCW students, most of them were inside.

“Depending on how the day goes, I plan on not leaving my apartment,” Danielle DeVeaux said.

The wet, chilly weather pretty much dampened campus activity.

“Now it’s just wet and rainy so it’s the kind of snow day where literally you don’t want to do anything,” DeVeaux said. “There’s no reason to leave your room.”

“I was thinking about having friends over for a snowball fight but I don’t think that’s going to happen,” Kevin Bahr said.

Not happening because there wasn’t much snow by the afternoon. Students say it’s not an ideal snow day for them.

“I wish there was actual snow that would be great.”

But while some wish for more snow, some just need more coffee to get through their day at work. Emily Colin works for a children’s art education program in Wilmington.

“As member of the staff, I still have to go in but it’ll give me time to do some preparation, some programming, some planning and some grant writing,” Colin said.

With some time to get things done, Colin says working on a snow day isn’t that bad.

“As long as everybody stays safe and warm and dry, and nobody is getting in the accidents on the road, I don’t mind it at all.”
