Commissioners honor 4 deputies for fire rescue
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY)– New Hanover County Commissioners honored four sheriff’s deputies Monday morning for rescuing a man from a fire last month.
Cpl C. Hollar, Dep. L. Daniels, Dep. J. Gonnelli and Dep. N. Brothers rescued a disable man from his home on Barren Inlet Rd on Feb. 20th.
Deputies were first to arrive on the scene around 1:30 a.m. and found Anne Britt outside. Her husband, George Britt, was still upstairs. Deputies said he could not get out due to being confined in a wheelchair.
The deputies got Britt out of his wheelchair in the burning home before firefighters arrived.
Monday, the commissioners presented all four deputies with certificates of appreciation for their bravery and superior public safety.
