Man charged after 12lbs of cocaine found in car

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Deputies say more than 12 pounds of cocaine in a car now has a man in jail.

Deputies say Christopher Eugene Newton, 34, was arrested Friday after a joint investigation with Wilmington Police, Wilmington DEA and the sheriff’s office. Detectives say they found 6 kilos, or more than 12 pounds, of cocaine in his car. Deputies say the drugs are worth $600,000.

Newton is facing charges including felony trafficking cocaine. He’s in jail under a $750,000 bond.
