Carolina Beach Rd. near Monkey Junction reopens after gas leak

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Carolina Beach Road has reopened, after a natural gas leak caused emergency workers to shut down part of the road near Monkey Junction.

New Hanover County Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer says the road was closed near Silva Terra Lane and Adams Landing. Brewer said witnesses have reported being able to hear and see the leak.

Lt. Brewer says a construction crew cut a gas line before 5 p.m. That led to the evacuation of construction crews in the Adams Landing neighborhood and homes on both side of Carolina Beach Road.

Carolina Beach road was shut down for about an hour. The gas leak is still being repaired. Brewer said that could take another couple of hours, but traffic is moving just fine.
