Police: Man hitches ride, steals pants from victim

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police say a man took off running with another man’s pants from a Wilmington hotel yesterday afternoon after hitching a ride with the victim.

Wilmington Police say just before 2 p.m. Thursday, a man asked the victim, 42, for a ride from the McDonald’s on Market Street to the Budgetel Inn. When the two men arrived at the hotel, police say the victim told them the hitchhiker asked to use his bathroom. They say after the suspect used the bathroom, the victim started taking his clothes off to get in the shower inside the hotel room. That’s when police say the suspect took off running with the victim’s pants.

After struggling with the suspect over the pants, which police say had the man’s wallet and cell phone in them, the man finally got away. Police say the victim describes the suspect as a black male, who’s about 5’10” with a medium build. WPD says officers are still investigating.
