Shallotte honors American heroes with music

SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — Memorial Day celebrations are in full swing this weekend. In Shallotte a concert was held to remember the true meaning behind it all, America’s fallen veterans.

Folks gathered at Rourk Gardens to pay their respects to those who gave their lives protecting our nation.

Congressman David Rouzer served as the keynote speaker this afternoon. He shared the words of veterans and their loved ones to remind everyone that Memorial Day is much more than just a 3-day weekend.

Shallotte Mayor Walter Eccard said the annual event brings the community together and it is a great way to celebrate America’s heroes and the coming of summer.

Eccard said this is Shallotte’s kick off for their summer concert and movie series.

There was a variety of music throughout the afternoon. Everything from big band to good old rock and roll was played. It was the perfect way to celebrate America.
