Suspect charged with attacks on woman, deputy, jail officers


BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Brunswick County man already on his way to jail wound up more charges after incidents involving a deputy and three jail officers.

Brunswick County deputies arrested Ivan Luna, 21, today on a felony charge of assault by strangulation and misdemeanor assault on a female. A warrants claims Luna put his hands around a woman’s throat and squeezed leaving bruises. He also allegedly punched her in the head and body.

Another warrant shows that as a deputy took Luna to jail, Luna spit on him. According to a third warrant, while jail staff tried to book Luna in and take his photo, he assaulted three officers causing minor injuries.

Luna is now charged with malicious conduct by a prison and three counts of assaulting a jail employee. All of those charges are felonies.
