List reveals most threatened historic sites in Wilmington

Wilmington, NC (WWAY) —  Today the Historic Wilmington Foundation announced their list of the most threatened historic sites of Wilmington for the tenth year in a row.

Many historic sites were listed as either threatened or put on a watch list by the foundation,  including the Murchison building.

The brick streets of downtown were also on the watch list.

George Edwards, the Executive Director of the Foundation, says raising awareness like this will help preserve architectural and cultural heritage for the future.

“I know that it works, it takes everybody working together, ” Edwards said. “It takes government, private property owners, non-profits and other interested citizens but I know it works.”

Edwards says they hope these locations will be renovated for future use, like the old Topsail School on Highway 17.
