Man guilty in convenience store, taxi driver robberies
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man is headed to jail for two robberies that occurred last year.
Alfonzo Brooks, 40, pleaded guilty Tuesday to the armed robbery of the Scotchman store at 310 South College Road from June and the taxi driver robbery and assault from September. After the first robbery, Brooks was put on pretrial release but removed his ankle monitor. Brooks then got in a cab outside of the City Limits Saloon downtown and ordered the driver to take him to 10th and Grace streets. During that time, Brooks began assaulting the driver and eventually ran off with $57 after being sprayed with pepper spray.
Brooks was sentenced to between three and almost seven years in prison.
