UNCW: Phys Ed & Health, Music programs will not be cut

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A spokeswoman with UNCW says recent reports that a couple of degree programs were on the chopping block is not correct.

Earlier this week, UNC system leaders announced several degree programs that will be phased out. Area reports said the Phys Ed and Music degrees at UNCW would be affected as well.

A UNCW spokeswoman said there were only clerical and administrative changes to programs at the school.

“The Physical Education and Health degree program has not been discontinued and continues to play a critical role in preparing our students for this important field,” a statement from the university read. “The Bachelor of Music in Performance is being phased out gradually as a distinct degree program, but classes will still be made available to students through the Department of Music as part of UNCW’s recently revised Bachelor of Arts in Music.”

The spokeswoman added the music program producers one of the highest job placement records on campus, and the changes will actually add an option for music students to study an emphasis in Music Entrepreneurship.
