Teen charged in early-morning crime spree

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A teen is in jail after police say he went on a four-hour crime spree of car break-ins this morning.

Police say Guthrie William Sharkey, 18, was arrested shortly after 6:00 a.m. and is facing charges including breaking and entering and first degree burglary. They say the incidents started around 1:30 a.m. near Tennessee Avenue. Police say he also stole a car that was found wrecked off West Lake Shore Drive.

Police say Sharkey was found with numerous stolen items. He is in the New Hanover County Jail under a $250,000 bond.

Sharkey has been in the news headlines before for other breaking and entering investigations. In April 2013, police say a K9 bit Sharkey in the face after trying to hide from authorities.
