Law Enforcement Appreciation Day brings people and police together

BLADENBORO, NC (WWAY) — The Center Road Baptist Church held a Law Enforcement Appreciation Day service Sunday morning.

Folks gathered to show their support for those who protect and serve the Bladen County community. Volunteers prepared lunch for the officers and prayed for them.

Bladenboro Police Department Chaplain and event organizer, David Rutland, said days like this are important because they create a bond between the people and police.

“Yes it’s very important to know that whenever we go out we’ve got the backing of the community. We’ve got people who know us, who trust us, who thank us for what we do,” said Rutland.

Rutland said one of the goals of the event was to teach children that they should be respectful of law enforcement, but that they should also not be afraid of men and women in uniform.
