Rescue crews host Ocean Safety Talks to teach beach basics

KURE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — As Atlantic Hurricane Season officially starts, ocean rescue crews in Kure Beach are hoping to help community members learn the basics of beach safety.

Starting Monday morning, the Kure Beach Ocean Rescue team will host Ocean Safety Talks each week. During these weekly meetings, experts will teach lessons like what to do if a swimmer is in distress, how to escape rip currents and other important safety tips.

The crews will also detail the community about what the colored flags spotted on the beach in the summer season stand for. The safety talks will be held at the Ocean Front Park Pavilion each Monday at 10 a.m. through mid-August.
