Register of Deeds, husband charged in drunk driving incident

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Investigators say both a driver and his wife are facing charges after being pulled on suspicion of drunk driving. The woman, Beverly Parks, is the register of deeds for the county.

Deputies say the pair was leaving the Dublin Motor Speedway on Sunday at around 1:30 a.m. when they were pulled at the intersection of Lyon landing Road and Suggs-Taylor Road. Troopers then took over the investigation and charged Phillip Parks, 49, with DWI and driving left of center. Beverly Parks was charged with aiding and abetting impaired driving and possession of an open container.

According to the North Carolina Association Register of Deeds, Parks has served as register of deeds in Bladen County since 2011.

WWAY has reached out to Parks and county leaders for comment and current status in that position. Calls have not been returned.
