Wilmington Skee-Ball lets the good times roll
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Remember Skee-Ball the fun arcade game you played as a kid. Well they’re playing it in Wilmington but this ain’t your childhood Skee-ball. Brewskee-Ball as it’s called, is played across the county and here in Wilmington. We’ve got a national champion right here at home, Tracy Townsend.
Townsend has been playing Skee-Ball for a few years.
“My friend Mary she’s very strict and she wanted to pay attention to everything,” Townsend said, adding she wasn’t interested in that. “I ended up being better than her and she was so irritated by that and I was like sorry.”
Townsend and the Wilmington Brewskee-Ball league went to the national championship this year. Townsend said she didn’t expect to make it in the finals, but she certainly did make it. She faced off in the finals against her arch-nemesis, Joey the Cat.
“And as soon as I saw he missed that 100 where I would win I literally put my head in my hands and started crying,” Townsend said of her winning moment.
The owner of Five Star Tavern, Adrian Varnam, is also the coach of the Brewskee-Ball league. He helped bring the league to town. He couldn’t be more proud of Tracy.
“Oh my god it’s unbelievable she wasn’t the only crying after she won,” Varnum said, “I think all of us were.”
The new Brewskee-Ball league starts up June 16th at Five Star Tavern. A documentary is also being made about Brewskee-Ball called ‘For The Love of the Lane,” that is set to release in 2016.
