Roy Turner to step down as Ashley’s A.D.
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Roy Turner will be stepping down soon as the director of athletics at Ashley High School. Turner has been the school’s A.D. since 2006.
Roy Turner will be stepping down at the end of August in order to be the regional supervisor for the Eastern Basketball Officials Association. He’ll be replacing Tommy Mattocks in that position. Turner will remain at Ashley through the end of August in order to help the new Ashley A.D. with a smooth transition.
Roy Turner started officiating in 1981. He stopped officiating in 2010 due to recurring knee issues. “I was tremendously blessed to work with some great people, principals, counselors, coaches, athletes and booster club people,” Turner told us Monday afternoon. “I am very fortunate to do what I’ve done every day. I look forward to the next chapter of moving forward. There will be no questions or loyalty, nor will there be any conflicts of interest.”
