Flag sales to help raise money for 4th of July Festival

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — North Carolina 4th of July Festival planners are looking at new ways to fundraise.

Event organizers say they want to keep the festival free and open to everyone, but that means they have to raise more money.

They are selling American flags for $20 in honor of Flag Day and to raise money for the annual event.

“It’s been historically free all these years,” festival administrator Karen Sphar said, “and we want to continue that, and we want to continue to provide the festival at the level it is.”

You can buy a new flag at the Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce while the groups collects retired flags. The flag retirement ceremony this year will be on July 3.
