UPDATE: 911 calls released from two armed robberies
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Dispatch released the 911 calls from two armed robberies in Wilmington Tuesday night.
During the first, Wilmington Police said three men threatened a Lucky Star Chinese delivery driver at an apartment complex on S. College Road around 11 p.m. After the robbers stole money and food from the victim, they ran.
The victim didn’t call 911 until after he’d spoken to his work. He explained why when the 911 operator asked him if she should call his work to let managers know about what happened.
“I talked to them already,” said the delivery driver. “They were beeping in while it was happening, while it happened, and I answered once they [the robbers] were taking off running. I answered real quick and said this is what happened and I got to call the cops.”
The delivery driver, who was not hurt, said it was one of the robbers who called in the order. The restaurant’s manager said the employee is back at work.
About 30 minutes after that, three men robbed a Henry’s employee who was leaving the restaurant on Independence Boulevard.
Wilmington police said the robbers took money, a purse, a wallet and two cell phones from the victim, and then left. They added that the victim was not hurt.
A witness called 911. At first, he whispered during the call because he was still outside. When got back inside his building, he told the 911 operator what he’d just seen.
“I was coming out of my office building, and she was in the parking lot outside Henry’s restaurant,” the witness said. “She was just pleading with this guy, ‘Please, I just want to go home. I just want to go home.’ I don’t know who he is, if he is someone who is just intoxicated, or she’s being threatened.”
Wilmington police said they didn’t know whether the robberies were related, and were still searching for the suspects as of Wednesday night.
