Former boyfriend arrested after woman’s dog set on fire

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) — A puppy is recovering from being set on fire and authorities have accused the former boyfriend of its owner for committing the crime.

The Fayetteville Observer reports 23-year-old James Franklin Quick was charged Monday with injuring Dominique Clark’s 7-month-old miniature terrier following an argument Sunday. Authorities say Quick poured lighter fluid over Clark’s dog and set it on fire.

Clark says Cumberland County Animal Control took the puppy to Animal Urgent Care in Fayetteville, where she was told treatment would cost about $1,000. She was unable to afford it, so she took her dog home and put ointment on the animal’s legs.

Quick was charged with animal cruelty and burning of personal property. He was arrested Sunday for unrelated charges of possessing a firearm by a convicted felon.
