Mass Dispensing Drill tests emergency preparedness

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Are we prepared for a bio-terrorism or infectious disease outbreak? That’s what folks hoped to answer in New Hanover county today.

A mass dispensing drill was held out at Cape Fear Community College’s North Campus to simulate what it would be like if emergency responders had to give massive amounts of vaccines to people in our area.

Organizers said it’s no easy task.

“Its very important to do that and it takes a lot of manpower to get that together. We’ve been working for months, probably 6 months putting this together and working with our partners such as law enforcement, hospital and emergency management,” said Joshua Swift the Deputy Health Director of New Hanover county.

The type of drills is held every 4 or 5 years. They called this type of training crucial in preparing for an actual emergency.
