New Hanover tight end Garrett Walston commits to Georgia

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover High School tight end Garrett Walston is considered a hot commodity in the football recruiting wars. Walston narrowed his college decision to three different universities several weeks ago: Georgia, NC State and North Carolina. On Tuesday afternoon the rising New Hanover senior announced his intention to attend the University of Georgia in 2016.

Scout 300 ranks Garrett Walston as the top tight end in North Carolina. Walston caught 44 passes for 847 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2014 for New Hanover in Kevin Motsinger’s final season with the Wildcats. Earl Smith is now the New Hanover head coach, replacing Kevin Motsinger as New Hanover’s head football coach a few months ago.
