Sharks’ Destino named CPL Hitter of the Week

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Sharks first baseman Alex Destino has been named the Coastal Plain League’s Hitter of the Week for June 29-July 5.

Destino, a freshman at South Carolina this past spring, had his best week of the 2015 CPL season so far hitting .433 in six games for the Sharks. Batting cleanup, Destino totaled seven RBI and 13 hits including two doubles and three home runs for a .800 slugging percentage and 24 total bases on the week. He struck out just three times in 30 at-bats while taking one walk for a .452 on-base percentage. He also scored four runs.

Wilmington has won five games in a row landing the Sharks to the top spot in the second-half standings in the East.

The Sharks continue play at Petersburg tonight and in Fayetteville tomorrow. They return home Wednesday to take on Wilson.
