USCG Crews medevac woman from cruise ship off NC coast

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Coast Guard crews say a woman who was suffering stroke symptoms aboard a Carnival cruise ship about 200 miles east of Wilmington Monday afternoon is in stable condition.

According to a release, when they got the call from the 959-foot, Panama-flagged cruise ship Carnival Pride, the Coast Guard launched a helicopter crew and aircraft crew from Elizabeth City at about 5:50 p.m.

A few hours later, the chopper crew lowered a rescue swimmer and hoisted the woman in distress, along with a family member and medical professional in the helicopter. The woman was taken to Greenville’s Vidant Medical Center, arriving at about 9 p.m.

Coast Guard crews say at last check, the woman was reportedly in stable condition.
