Pender County wildfire burns 50 acres off US 421

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Fire crews in Pender County say investigators are still working to find what caused a wildfire that burned about 50 acres of a wooded area off of US 421 Wednesday afternoon.

Deputy Fire Marshal Tommy Batson says no one was hurt and no homes were threatened from the fire. Batson says crews were able to put out the fire in a few hours.

The NC Forestry Service, along with Pender County firefighters and EMS responded to the scene. Batson says they’re still investigating what sparked the wildfire.
